Overview:

Treegens is growing a movement of regenerators through the most rewarding & transparent tree planting.

The project focuses on developing a mobile-first web application for a Proof-of-Plant protocol, which rewards users for planting mangrove trees with a native token called $MGR. The target users are community-based organizations and individuals living near mangrove forests in 118 countries who plant trees seasonally without consistent income or incentives.

By leveraging blockchain, AI, and gamification, Treegens ensures transparency, accountability, and engagement in environmental restoration efforts. The initial focus on mangrove trees—due to their high carbon absorption and simple planting process—lays the groundwork for scaling to other tree species in the future.

The Challenge:

The main challenge was gamifying the user experience, from onboarding to guiding users on how to film and submit tree-planting videos. The app needed to clearly communicate every step, from joining the DAO as a validator to getting submissions verified, ensuring users understood the process through an intuitive UI.

Another core challenge was building a system that allowed users to film themselves planting trees and submit videos with GPS data. This required an AI system and a protocol to count and validate tree planting, ensuring accurate allocation of $MGR tokens as rewards.

Solution:

To achieve the goal, we designed the user journey into two distinct flows within a single web app:

  1. Planter App Flow:
  2. Verifier App Flow:

The app automatically directs users to the appropriate flow based on token holdings, ensuring a seamless and intuitive experience.
